Sermon Description

"One Church, Many Perspectives"

Many have been asking the ministers what we think about accepting the gift of property downtown and beginning a process to relocate. We have all attended various discussions and functions on the subject and have spent the last couple of months listening to the hopes and fears of the congregation. This Sunday you will hear from Tamara, Gerald, Dr. Wolf, and me – our perspectives.

In our tradition a decision like this is not up to the clergy. In fact, we do not even get to vote. In times of major decisions in people’s lives, ministers are often asked their opinion. But one should never do anything just because someone else thinks it’s a good idea. It is up to each individual to wrestle with his or her conscience and decide for
him or herself. Our congregation, and its generations not yet born, need each of us to rise to this occasion.

Separating our personal, individual feelings from the issue and voting what is best for the future of All Souls Unitarian Church of Tulsa, Oklahoma is a question requiring serious discernment.

At 10:00 and 11:30 am there will be town hall meetings in Emerson Hall where you can ask questions and get the information you need to be an informed voter. Then, on Nov. 20, the congregation will gather at 2:00 pm in our beloved sanctuary to vote on whether to accept the gift. The decision we make will impact All Souls for generations to come. I hope and pray that you will be a part of it!
