9th Grade Coming of Age

The Coming of Age program bridges ninth graders from our Children’s Religious Education Program into the Youth Department. Its goal is to help each student, at the “age of discretion,” determine their own religious identity and begin to foster a life-long interest in their own religious growth.    We meet Sunday mornings from 10:00 am -12:30 pm, in sessions that include a mix of discussions, worship, video, music, presentation, field trips and social time.

The Revs. Marlin Lavanhar and Tamara Lebak meet with Coming of Age participants for extended rites of passage rituals. Additional high points for the program are the VisionqUUest campout in the fall and the Boston pilgrimage over Spring Break.  The culmination of the program is the Coming of Age Service in the spring, when each student delivers a personal statement of belief called a credo to the congregation.
